The Walls Come Tumbling Down Secure in Heart retreat at the Dallas Church of Christ Lee Anne Vett The Dallas East Region of the DFW Church of Christ had a Women's Retreat in January entitled "Secure in Heart". We had 107 women in attendance. When the women registered, they were given the Secure in Heart book and encouraged to begin reading it before the Retreat. After arriving in the afternoon on Saturday and having lots of fellowship and dinner together, we were ready to dive into the book. I started off the evening with an overview of the first 4 chapters, taking women back to the Garden of Eden to see Satan's plan to destroy our security with God. Then we had 3 sisters share from the next 3 chapters of the book: Ch. 5 "Am I Enough?", Ch.6 "Who Can I count on?" and Ch.7 " Will I Be Rescued?" Each sister read her chapter and shared her testimony from the angle of that chapter. Women ministering to women It was so moving to see how each chapter ministered to the women where they were at and in return, ministered to all of us as well. It was deeply moving. We then split out into small groups (6-7) and shared -Where am I giving Satan a stronghold through insecurity in my life? The women were letting down their walls and confessing their own insecurities with one another. We all stayed in 5 houses on the Ranch where we had the retreat, so we were able to keep the fellowship going on into the night. Sunday morning, we had the next 4 chapters: Ch. 8 "Will I Be Successful?'", Ch. 9 "Who Will Protect Me?", Ch. 10 "What Do Others Think of Me?" and Ch. 11 "Will I Be Alone". We had 4 sisters share, one from each chapter and then ended our time with the last chapter "Secure Love" leading us to take communion. There wasn't a dry eye in the whole place. Heart-moving testimonies The power of testimonies brought the walls down for everyone, because they were all so different and could relate in some way to every woman. It was so evident that true security in heart can only come from God and the women's testimonies proved that! (Just the way the testimonies in Robin's book did so at the end of each chapter.) In a short weekend together, we were able to cover the whole book, sending the women home wanting more! This book has ministered to all of us at the retreat! It helped all of us to wake up and see Satan's plan, as it was from the beginning of time, to distance us from the love and security of a real relationship with God.
