From Robin: The Soup and Security Story

After I contracted the book with my publisher, Discipleship Publications International, I had some big convictions about how I wanted to go about finishing writing it. First of all, as an insecure soul, I knew that I would need other women surrounding me, giving me courage. Secondly, I knew that I wanted the book to contain every woman’s voice. And so I started what I called Soup and Security®.

Soup and Security begins
A group of incredibly diverse women started coming to my house every Sunday afternoon (more about these women is included in the book’s Introduction). We sat around the big antique oak table in our dining room, and read the book as I wrote it. I rewarded them for coming with a big bowl of soup, or as the season grew warmer, a salad.

During those Sunday afternoons some amazing things happened. First of all, these women listened to my raw, unfiltered stories, and gave me the courage to include them in the book. Secondly, we learned quickly that we all shared the same sources of insecurity. Together, we learned to change by pursuing a deeper relationship with God and each other.

Every woman’s voice
As these women opened up, I took down their comments. You’ll see them throughout the book, wherever a small soup icon appears. Some of their stories also appear after the chapters in the second section of Secure in Heart.

We so loved our time together, that by the end of the book, it was obvious to each of us, that Soup and Security was something that we wanted to offer other women as well.

A Soup and Security group is a place where Secure in Heart really comes alive. By gathering once a week with other women to share a meal and share in each other’s battles, you can work together to fight for a secure life, while building lasting relationships.

Help spread the word
It’s exciting to see what God is doing. Currently there are Soup and Security groups meeting all over the nation, and many international groups.
